Pashinyan Cannot Resist Pressure on Nagorno-Karabakh, Will Make Serious Concessions: Expert

2019 will be a year of pressure on the media in Armenia. This was stated by the director of the Armenian Center for Political and International Studies, political analyst Aghasi Yenokyan, on his Facebook page.

He specifically wrote:

“There is no doubt among experts that Nikol Pashinyan cannot resist the pressures related to Nagorno-Karabakh and will ultimately make serious concessions. It is possible that these concessions could deepen to the point where they call into question the existence of the Republic of Armenia, yet Armenian citizens do not discuss these issues.

Instead, numerous other problems—such as ecology, corruption, human rights, the rights of the deceased, LGBT rights, and animal rights—have been thrown into the public agenda. Of course, all these are important for the development of Armenia, but only if Armenia continues to exist.

The primary reason for the spread of this false agenda is the absence of an opposition. It is hard to imagine that Prosperous Armenia or Bright Armenia could raise security issues against Nikol Pashinyan's government, as they are entangled with that authority.

The extra-parliamentary opposition is still licking its wounds after losing power and elections.

The institutional opponent to Nikol Pashinyan could be the media, which is why he has been focused on silencing the press since the beginning of the year. Following a disproportionate and vigorous reaction to a publication regarding the government, Nikol Pashinyan announced that the previous authorities controlled 90% of the media.
