Manvel Grigoryan Does Not Wish to Sue Armenia: Lawyer

During a meeting with journalists today, Levon Baghdasaryan, one of the lawyers for former MP Manvel Grigoryan, stated that Grigoryan has opted not to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

It is worth noting that the issue of Grigoryan’s detention and subsequent release could have reached the ECHR. According to the lawyer, Grigoryan should not have been detained solely based on investigators' assumptions that he could commit a crime. Based on this violation, the defense could have approached the ECHR, but they chose not to.

When asked why Grigoryan had decided against appealing to the ECHR, the lawyer replied that Grigoryan did not want to "sue Armenia." He mentioned that discussions on this matter had taken place months ago, and since then, they have not discussed the issue with Grigoryan.
