Governor Bonuses Are Dubious: Gevorg Petrosyan

There exists a Court of Auditors and a State Oversight Service, and if they identify and register violations, the Prosperous Armenia party will not hesitate to provide a political and legal assessment of those violations. This was stated today by Gevorg Petrosyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia faction in the National Assembly, during a conversation with journalists, in response to a question about the fact that employees of the regional governor's office who have worked for 6-7 months receive large bonuses.

“If you are guided by your logic, perhaps you will demand us to consider why a village head in one of Armenia's regions bought a motorcycle instead of a bicycle. In other words, we must clarify the scope of our powers. We are aware of the information you mentioned at the level of internet sites. According to the Constitution, every state, local self-government body, and official is authorized to undertake only those actions that are permitted by the Constitution or laws,” said Petrosyan.

According to him, the parliament does not have the authority to discuss the issue of governor bonuses.

At the same time, the MP noted that they are interested in ensuring that no funds are spent without purpose.

“There is a principle of presumption of innocence that we must consider and uphold in all interactions. At this moment, a violation must first be identified. I can express my personal opinion, but I am presenting myself as a member of a political force. Of course, I can also express my personal opinion. Bonuses are awarded based on the results of annual activities according to the current Labor Code. Since the term of office for governors has not yet been completed, the grounds for such bonuses are questionable. But that is my personal opinion,” he stated.
