Arpine Hovhannisyan Addresses Edmon Marukyan

Member of the Republican Party's Executive Body and former Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Arpine Hovhannisyan, wrote on her Facebook page: “Edmon Marukyan, while you were delivering your speech and stating that yes, in ‘post-revolution’ Armenia, human rights are at risk and it is not easy to raise concerns about the state of human rights, your forecasts have already come true. While the special investigative service of our homeland could not summarize the results of the forensic examination appointed for November 14 and insisted that the treatment of Samvel Mayrapetyan was not unequivocal, the European Court of Human Rights decided to apply interim measures in the case of Samvel Mayrapetyan and instructed the Armenian government to urgently provide medical assistance corresponding to Samvel Mayrapetyan's health condition.

I am confident that this is the first such decision, but not the last one. This is an issue for everyone, and primarily for Armenian taxpayers. We must eliminate the situation where pronounced unprofessionalism, haste, and the unwarranted drive to show ‘good results’ to the leader lead to irreversible consequences. Here, there will be no room for pathetic or ‘you should have said that back then’ pointless texts. A mistake is a mistake—now or back then. I urge the political leadership to urge and demand law enforcement agencies to act professionally—no more, no less.

A separate reminder to the judicial authority and its representatives: remember, you are responsible for your illegal decisions (which will be confirmed by the ECHR), only you, regardless of whether you received a call or not.”
