NSS Discovers and Prevents Corruption-related Crime
The National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia has unveiled and prevented a corruption-related crime as a result of operational-investigative measures and investigative actions undertaken by its employees.
According to the NSS press center, preliminary data suggest that N.T., the chief of the Stepanavan forestry at the ‘Hayantar’ state non-commercial organization, organized illegal logging and the extraction and sale of timber, having reached preliminary agreements with the director of the same forestry. For this activity, N.T. allegedly demanded and received more than 300,000 AMD in bribes from various citizens of Armenia between July and October 2018.
At the same time, to avoid interference with the illegal logging and transportation of timber, N.T. offered and transferred a bribe of 150,000 AMD to N.K., the deputy head of the Stepanavan division of the Lori regional police.
A criminal case has been initiated in the NSS investigative department regarding the incident. Charges have been brought against three individuals, with two of them being placed under detention and one being subjected to a travel restriction.
