Naira Zohrabyan on Armenian Military Captives in Azerbaijan
The National Assembly continues to discuss the election of heads of permanent commissions.
The Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Arman Abovyan, asked the candidate for the chair of the Permanent Commission on Human Rights and Public Affairs, Naira Zohrabyan, about the vision the commission has regarding the ongoing efforts related to captives in Azerbaijan.
“Today we have 4 captives in Azerbaijan, 2 are citizens of the Republic of Armenia, 1 is a citizen of Artsakh, and the other is a citizen of Russia of Armenian descent. Excessive publicizing of the issue often harms the situation; I say this as a deputy who has engaged with the Red Cross on the issue of military captives. We need to keep this issue under our scrutiny and try to obtain information from the relevant authorities. Regarding the missing persons, we have three different numbers: according to the Ministry of Defense, there are 320; according to the Red Cross, there are 400; and according to the organization ‘Against Legal Arbitrary,’ there are 900. We must keep the issue in focus, but we should not expect serious results,” she stated.
