Third Application to the European Court of Human Rights in Kocharian's Case

Third Application to the European Court of Human Rights in Kocharian's Case

The hearings regarding the measure of restraint for the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, continue at the Central Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan, presided over by Judge Arthur Mkrtchyan.

Robert Kocharian's attorney, Aram Orbelyan, stated in an interview with reporters that they are preparing to submit a third complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

"It is not excluded that the 18th article will also be included in that complaint, which defines who a political prisoner is," he noted.

Orbelyan emphasized that the issue of Kocharian’s status as a political prisoner is not being discussed in Armenian courts. "Here, we are demonstrating legal violations, which are in the process of being developed. The application to the ECtHR does not depend solely on the results of today’s court session, which is certainly important, but the overall process will also be taken into account," he said.

Orbelyan also informed that the defense team is considering including the positions of various lawyers and legal entities both within Armenia and abroad in the complaint.
