VIDEO: What did the newly elected MP say yesterday that was not understood?

Gor Gevorgyan, a member of the 'My Step' faction, addressed reporters today regarding his remarks from yesterday, particularly the quote in Classical Armenian that circulated widely on the internet:

"I have translated what I am saying, haven’t I?" he said.

Gevorgyan posed a question back to the journalists:

"In which language do you say the Lord's Prayer? For example, I say it in Classical Armenian. What I said is also a short quote from the Holy Scriptures, which are the words of Jesus and have been reflected both in Matthew's and the Apostle Paul's words."

Gevorgyan struggled to point out reasons why his quote was not understood. When asked if the MPs understood his words, he replied:

"Yes! If a person says something and then provides a translation, what else can I teach? Our faith unites us on the notion that we should build a new quality, prosperous state, and the National Assembly should act as a representative body and the structure that exists between power and society, which no one among us, since the era of Armenia’s independence, has dreamed of. This is the issue; I have not said anything to seek other subtexts."

According to the MP, this is, after all, the National Assembly, the highest legislative body of the state management system, where members at least possess a certain level of intellect; otherwise, they cannot represent the interests of the people. Hence, it is unclear what discussions the criticism refers to.

"Those gathered here at least have the intellectual potential to represent the interests of the people," he said.

In response to the comment about whether they also have knowledge of Classical Armenian, the MP remarked that knowing Classical Armenian is irrelevant; he spoke in Armenian, which is not a foreign language but our ancient language.

"If a person simply quotes from the Holy Scriptures, everyone, if they do not understand, at least has the obligation to think about what they are saying, especially when the speaker translates right after. Why hasn’t this been raised concerning Khorenatu? 'To defend the boundaries with their weapons?'" he said.
