Stabbing and Gunshots in Karbi Community: Charges Filed Against 6 Individuals
The Investigation Department of the Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office has made significant progress in understanding the circumstances surrounding a violent incident in the Karbi community, including motives and the parties involved.
It was previously reported that on May 27, 2018, at approximately 10:30 PM, a group of individuals engaged in a heated argument near the local municipality in the Karbi community of Aragatsotn Province. The conflict escalated into a brawl involving firearms, with some participants using bats and sharp objects.
A criminal case was initiated at the Aragatsotn Provincial Investigative Department based on the incident, and the investigation continued in the Human Crimes Investigation Department of the Armenian Investigative Committee.
According to preliminary investigation data, the argument among the group of youths arose from the speeding of a vehicle. A local resident initially admonished the driver for his excessive speed before subsequently hitting his car with a bottle. Friends from both sides intervened, escalating the situation into a brawl that involved stabbing and gunfire from an automatic weapon. During the incident, six individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries, two of whom were severe, two moderately severe, and two with minor injuries.
The investigation identified the parties involved, clarified the actions of each individual, and recovered the firearm used in the crime.
Based on the evidence collected during the pre-trial proceedings, charges have been filed against six individuals, five of whom reside in Karbi, and one from Yerevan.
A 44-year-old man has been charged with causing serious bodily harm in a manner dangerous to many lives and unlawfully acquiring and possessing weapons and military supplies under the Armenian Criminal Code, Article 112, Part 2, Clause 5, and Article 235, Part 1. A 33-year-old resident of Yerevan has been charged with hooliganism involving the use of a weapon and stabbing one person under Article 112, Part 1, and Article 258, Part 4. Another individual is charged under Article 258, Part 4, for hooliganism with the use of a weapon, and three others are charged under Article 258, Part 3, Clause 1 for engaging in hooliganism as a group.
The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
