Another Person Dies from H1N1 in Armenia

Another death due to complications from swine flu has been recorded in Armenia. A 62-year-old man, who was in extremely critical condition from heart and pulmonary failure, was found to have also contracted the H1N1 strain of the influenza A virus. The death was attributed to exacerbation of heart failure.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, the man sought medical assistance late.

This is the second death this season due to complications from H1N1. The first victim was a 55-year-old woman who died on December 29.

The incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in the republic is showing an increasing trend. There is significant activity observed both in outpatient and inpatient healthcare facilities.

As of January 14, a total of 1,080 patients have presented with acute respiratory infections in outpatient services, while 837 citizens are receiving treatment in hospitals, of which 95% are children.

Specialists from the Ministry continue to monitor children with respiratory infections in preschool and school institutions through an “epidemiological filter.” On January 14, 499 children were reported with ARI, and they were sent home.
