1300 Doctors and 3300 Electronic Signatures Opposing Maher Yenokyan's Clemency Presented to the Prime Minister

The petition against granting clemency to lifelong convict Maher Yenokyan was presented to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan yesterday, according to Elena Agajanova, sister of the murdered Iosif Agajanov.

“As of yesterday, there were 1300 signatures from doctors, and more are continuing to join, including from the provinces, expressing their desire to participate in the petition,” she said, adding that, besides the doctors, other citizens also wished to join the campaign.

“People who have a significant contribution to the daily operations of the state have voiced their positions, stating that clemency should not be granted,” she noted.

Elena Agajanova also mentioned that they organized an electronic signature collection on Facebook, and as of yesterday, the number of participants reached 3300, which has also been submitted to the Prime Minister.

“I believe that our President and Prime Minister should take this matter very seriously and not just follow the recommendations of the pardons commission, especially since there are citizens who disagree with the clemency decision. The clemency process is a moral process, not a legal one, and the country’s leadership should pay attention to it,” she stated.

In response to the claim that the other side argues it is a legal issue and they are seeking a legal solution, she said that if it were a legal issue, they would go to court, not seek clemency, particularly when the person shows no remorse.
