Classes in Georgia Postponed to Ensure Student Safety

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has postponed the start of the academic year. The winter holidays for the 2018-2019 academic year will be extended until January 18, reports Aliq.ge, citing the ministry.

"The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Georgia, in consultation with the Ministry of Occupied Territories, the Ministry of Labor, Health, and Social Affairs, has decided to postpone the start of the academic process in schools due to the safety of students," the ministry states.

It has already been reported that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed ten deaths from the H1N1 virus (swine flu) in Georgia. However, as reported by Rustavi2 television, citing its sources, the number of deceased as of January 8 at 21:00 is 13.
