New Customs Clearance Method Raises Car Prices: Marukyan Appeals to Chairman of the State Revenue Committee

Just earlier, I have written a letter to the Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, Davit Ananyan, regarding the increase in customs clearance prices for vehicles by the customs service.

This was noted by Edmond Marukyan, a member of the National Assembly of Armenia, on his Facebook page.

“The issue is that since January 1 of this year, customs clearance is only conducted based on customs duties set by the customs service, and it is no longer possible to clear customs based on the sale and purchase documents of the vehicle (for example, invoice).

As a result, car prices are rising, and the purchase of old cars is once again being encouraged.

For example, if a person wants to buy a relatively new car, which costs 5,000 USD abroad, customs clearance based on the sale price method amounts to 32%—1,600 USD—while the price determined by the commission's documents reaches 9,000 USD.

Thus, I have requested information regarding the grounds and justifications for this decision and suggested reviewing this expensive method of vehicle customs clearance,” the deputy stated in his post.
