Video: Police Officer Arrested While Accepting Bribe

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia received a report on December 21, 2018, from a citizen stating that an officer of the Police of Armenia had demanded a significant bribe of about $700 in exchange for resolving the course of a complaint lodged at the police department in his favor.

This information was reported by the press center of the NSS of Armenia.

As a result of extensive operational and investigative measures undertaken by the NSS, it was discovered that A.H., a community police inspector from the Arabkir division of the Yerevan Police, had demanded a bribe of $700 from citizen N.K., promising that no action would be taken on the complaint received against him by the police, and that the applicant would be informed to contact another competent authority. Following negotiations, the demanded bribe was reduced to $500.

On December 26, 2018, around 12 PM, under the direct supervision of NSS employees, the citizen handed over $500 to A.H. in a police service vehicle, after which he was immediately detained by NSS employees, and the money was found inside the vehicle's cabin.

Materials for the apparent crime were prepared and forwarded to the Special Investigation Service of Armenia through the Office of the General Prosecutor. A criminal case has been initiated, and A.H. was arrested.
