Threat to 'Kentron' TV's Editorial Independence: Political Pressure from One Political Force, Says RA Media Regulation Commission

The Television and Radio Commission has released a statement concerning the editorial and broadcasting policies of 'Kentron' TV during the post-election period.

The statement reads:

“The Television and Radio Commission expresses concern regarding certain manifestations of the editorial and broadcasting policies carried out by 'Kentron' TV during the post-election period. During the period from December 10 to 17 of this year, several programs aired by the television company, particularly 'Epikentron' and 'Andradratz' information programs, have consistently and overtly targeted one of the currently operating political forces, employing a rich arsenal of propaganda and manipulative techniques.”

The Commission reminds that television companies operating with a license in the public digital space are obliged to reflect the diversity of public interests, ensuring the free circulation of ideas and opinions and impartial information while adhering to journalistic ethical standards.

Data from the ongoing monitoring conducted by the Commission also indicate that the editorial independence and the right to operate freely of 'Kentron' TV, guaranteed by law, are under threat, with evident interference and directive from a political force and its leader.

The Television and Radio Commission calls on the management of 'Kentron' TV to uphold journalistic ethical standards, to avoid becoming a propaganda platform for one party and a biased participant in 'inter-party wars', and to remain a credible source of impartial information and news.

The Commission is confident that every terrestrial broadcaster in Armenia recognizes its social responsibility, which transcends party and personal interests.”
