Photos: Birds Falling in Yerevan

Fallen birds have been discovered in various parts of Yerevan. Citizens are raising alarms on Facebook, sharing photographs of the incidents.

Ornithologist and environmentalist Silva Adamyan published a photo of a fallen bird on her Facebook page today, informing that the incident occurred in central Yerevan. Previously, she had warned that the bird fatalities could be a result of avian flu.

Two days ago, user Arsen Ohanyan shared photos on his Facebook page, stating, “People, I took this today in the Opera area. What could have caused their death, the cold, or could there be another reason?”

In response, Anush Harutyunyan, head of the Ministry of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Agency, issued a statement: “We ask that if you see any fallen birds, please immediately notify us by calling the hotlines 010206040 or 012906090. Alternatively, you can write here or send a PM. Please inform us in any way. Do not touch or remove the birds; just call and describe the exact location if possible, and if you can, wait. Our sampling inspector will come right away.”

Today, Harutyunyan announced that a fallen bird has been found and sent for laboratory examination. She promised to publish the results.
