No Nighttime Lighting in Yerevan
Accidents frequently occur on unlit streets due to serious visibility issues. This is compounded by people wearing dark clothing, which is especially hard to see in the dark.
Until now, the nighttime lighting of the streets in Yerevan operated under existing regulations. During summer months, it is turned off at 1 AM, while in winter, it is switched off at midnight. "Aurora Media" has received numerous calls from drivers who face significant challenges when navigating dark streets.
Taking into account the complaints from many drivers, Aurora News reached out to the Yerevan Municipality, requesting a change in the current regulations, which would enable nighttime illumination of the streets of Yerevan.
The municipality responded to our letter, stating that the schedule for Yerevan’s external lighting is based on the financial framework proposed by the 'Yereghaghluys' company at the beginning of the year and presented to the municipality.
"Regarding the change in the schedule for external lighting, we inform you that keeping the city’s external lighting network on until dawn is linked to additional financial allocations, which are not included in the budgets of 'Yereghaghluys' for 2018 and 2019 by the municipality," the response letter states.
