No Quorum in the National Assembly: Republican MP Retains Immunity

The National Assembly has commenced its regular session, but only 11 MPs are present, prompting Assembly President Ara Babloyan to urge the members to wait for four hours as there is once again no quorum.

It is worth noting that on the agenda of this session is the discussion regarding the removal of parliamentary immunity from Republican Party MP Aram Harutyunyan, who is accused of bribery and money laundering.

The Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office announced on December 3 that charges have been brought against Republican MP and former Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan in connection with a criminal case involving bribery and money laundering. The Prosecutor General has approached the Assembly President with a request to convene an extraordinary session of the National Assembly regarding the issue of removing Harutyunyan's immunity.
