Papoyan Explains the Accumulation of Cargo Trucks at Lars
The Armenian cargo trucks at the Upper Lars checkpoint, unable to cross the Georgian-Russian border, indicate that trade with Russia has increased. This was stated by the Minister of Economy of Armenia, Gevorg Papoyan, during a conversation with journalists while campaigning for the 'Civil Contract' party in the Nor Nork administrative district of Yerevan.
Papoyan responded to a journalist's remark that Armenian business owners' trucks are stuck at the Lars checkpoint, unable to cross the border, causing not only product spoilage but also financial losses.
According to Papoyan, they are working with their Russian counterparts and have very good working relations, and these issues will be resolved in a few days. "In general, the final day for resolving all issues is June 7, and our business people are aware of this. There are technical issues related to the significant volume of exports and imports we have to and from Russia; in other words, trade has increased, and a large number of tourists are coming and going to our country," emphasized the minister.
He did not have specific data on which products may have spoiled during these days but believes that such delays in cargo transportation happen and that it is normal.
Papoyan also addressed the price of Russian gas, stating that there are no problems in that regard.
