Andranik Tevanyan Under Criminal Investigation for Treason and Espionage
According to a report received by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia from the National Security Service, Armenian citizen A.T., a political figure who supported the 'Armenia' party alliance during the parliamentary elections held in 2021 and a member of the National Assembly included in the national electoral list of the same alliance, has been accused of espionage.
In 2024, A.T. allegedly colluded with foreign special services and, on behalf of a representative of a foreign special service serving as the director of the 'Russia Caucasus' geopolitical center, gathered state secrets. During this period, it is claimed that A.T. illegally collected and transferred to the said representative information translated into Russian regarding the proceedings and results of a closed, classified session of the National Assembly in April 2024, thereby committing acts of state treason against the Republic of Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security.
Based on the report from the National Security Service, the Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under the provisions of state treason (Article 418, Part 1) and espionage (Article 424, Part 1) in the Main Department for Investigating Crimes Against the State, Constitutional Order, and Public Security.
Note: The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code, by a legally binding decision of the court.
