All Scenarios Have Been Calculated: Papoyan on Importing Wheat and Gas from Russia

There will be no difficulties with the Russian side regarding the import of wheat or gas, assured Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan during a briefing with journalists after the Government session. The Minister emphasized that all mechanisms have been developed in case of any possible negative scenarios.

“Overall, the political changes we have made in recent years, including the opening of the border, have had positive effects. For example, while gasoline prices have skyrocketed 2-3 times globally, in Armenia they have increased only a few percent,” he noted.

Papoyan stressed that the government needs to diversify the import of wheat and other products to ensure that Armenia is not dependent on any single source and can maneuver freely. “Our relations with the Russian Federation are actually very good, they are partnership-based. There are certain tensions in the media regarding specific issues, but I would formulate it as being farther from the reality that exists. I believe that nonetheless, the last day of those tensions will be June 7. On June 8, after the victory of the people, everything will be ideal, and the Russian side has also mentioned that they will work very well with us. This has been announced at the highest levels, so everything will be fine,” said the Minister of Economy.
