Thames Water Employs Artificial Intelligence to Locate 'Invisible' Leaks
Thames Water has begun using artificial intelligence and satellite data to detect water leaks. The company aims to prevent the loss of up to 100 million liters of water daily.
The technology is being developed in collaboration with Origin Tech. Satellites monitor soil moisture and movement to identify potential leaks. In the UK, about 19% of water is lost before it reaches consumers.
The system allows for quicker detection of 'invisible' leaks compared to traditional checks. During trials, approximately 800 leaks were discovered, resulting in daily savings of around 8.7 million liters of water.
