Armenia Has Undertaken a Number of Unfriendly Steps, Says Shoigu
The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergey Shoigu, has stated that the recent political course of official Yerevan does not correspond to the spirit of allied relations with Moscow. This issue has become the main topic of discussion at the meeting of the working group of the Russian Security Council.
As an example of actions contrary to the principles of cooperation, Shoigu pointed to Armenia's legislative course towards EU membership, which was adopted back in the spring of 2025. According to him, the Armenian side regularly aligns itself with the EU's positions in international forums, as well as actively works towards compliance with standards, regulations, and customs-trade regimes, which may contradict the commitments undertaken by Yerevan within the framework of the EAEU.
The Secretary of the Russian Security Council also emphasized that during 2025-2026, several countries considered unfriendly toward Russia have become Armenia's strategic partners, with agreements signed that foresee deep cooperation in the field of security.
According to Shoigu, Moscow also considers Armenia's joining the status of the International Criminal Court and the extradition of Russian citizens to third countries as unfriendly steps.
