Tensions Remain High at Brusov Linguistic University: Faculty Under Fire

According to the newspaper "Joghovurd", tensions continue at the State University named after V. Brusov following actions taken by the Anti-Corruption Committee. It is recalled that on May 14, within the framework of a criminal case initiated at the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the head of one of the university’s departments and several faculty members were arrested on charges of bribery.

The arrested department head was Gayane Yeghiazaryan. According to "Joghovurd", Yeghiazaryan arrived at the university the day before, seemingly unaffected by the recent events.

We learned that the entire university staff had been aware for a long time of Yeghiazaryan's alleged corrupt practices. The Anti-Corruption Committee had been investigating complaints regarding the university for months before finally making the arrests. An investigation is currently underway.

Inside the university, several faculty members have come under scrutiny by law enforcement, and verification and investigative actions have been carried out against them. Nevertheless, the response of the university leadership has sparked even greater discontent among the faculty. While the faculty awaits a clear reaction and institutional protection, Rector Davit Gyurjinyan continues to remain silent.

It has become increasingly apparent within the university that the administration has effectively isolated itself from the ongoing crisis. Many faculty members feel abandoned amid pressure from law enforcement and the public. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Rector Gyurjinyan is once again abroad or on private travel and is physically absent from the university. Incidentally, the university’s pro-rector Gevorg Hakobyan is busy with the campaign activities of the ruling party, distributing flyers and has no time for university matters.

The escalating tension within the university is deepening day by day. Some faculty members are avoiding public statements out of fear of becoming the next "target". At the same time, students’ trust in the university management is also dwindling.

In the public sphere, one question is echoing louder: why is the university administration silent at a time when the institution is facing a severe credibility and management crisis? If the rector actually has something to say, now is the time he must speak—not after yet another trip, but right now.
