EAEU Meeting on May 29 to Discuss Armenia's Status

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk has announced that during the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council scheduled for May 29 in Astana, the leaders of the EAEU member states will discuss the status of Armenia.

The agenda item regarding Armenia's status at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will be a key discussion point. This was confirmed in an interview with the TASS news agency by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexey Overchuk.

“There will be a discussion on the topic of Armenia's status in the Eurasian Economic Union. The issue is very complex. We do not want Armenia to distance itself from the EAEU; we want Armenia to continue to thrive, but we see the problems that will arise should it join or get closer to the EU. Essentially, these issues are already surfacing,” he noted.

The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out that over the 11 years of Armenia's membership in the EAEU, the country has literally been flourishing, marked by increases in living standards and GDP growth. “All of this is largely due to the economic perks provided by EAEU membership. No one will be able to replace that for Armenia,” he stated.
