Armenia-Lithuania Cooperation Elevated to Strategic Level
On May 19, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys signed a joint declaration on "Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Lithuania" in Yerevan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports this.
Highlighting the importance of deepening Armenia's partnership with the EU, the signing parties announced their intention to transform the Armenian-Lithuanian Intergovernmental Commission into an Armenian-Lithuanian Commission on EU Integration, as appropriate and in accordance with the existing bilateral legal framework.
The parties will facilitate regular bilateral consultations between the relevant ministries of Armenia and Lithuania, focusing on supporting Armenia’s reforms aimed at aligning its legislation with EU norms and exchanging Lithuania’s experience in EU integration. They plan to conduct regular sectoral consultations in areas such as misinformation, public diplomacy, and related fields to exchange best practices and overcome existing challenges.
They will foster joint ventures, research, and other initiatives in high technologies, particularly in the fields of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, and cloud computing, building on Lithuania’s role as a regional leader in financial technologies, AI research, and digital governance, as well as Armenia’s rapidly expanding innovative ecosystem, solid engineering skills, and developing high-tech industry.
The parties expressed their intention to promote closer cooperation aimed at enhancing regional and international trade and transport links, including support for each other’s initiatives, such as the inclusion of Armenia's "Peace Crossroads" initiative within the framework of the EU's "Global Gateway" strategy, as well as Armenia's participation in regional economic and infrastructure initiatives.
They also expressed their intent to encourage cooperation in the energy sector, focusing on green hydrogen and renewable energy projects. Moreover, they will continue to support Lithuania’s assistance to Armenia in the context of implementing the Armenia-EU visa liberalization action plan, particularly in the areas of border management and security, as well as migration policy.
