Weightlifter Gor Minasyan Sets World Record at Asian Championships

Weightlifter Gor Minasyan, representing the Bahrain team, has claimed victory at the Asian Championship in weightlifting, set to take place in India in 2026. Competing in the +110 kg weight category, the 31-year-old athlete recorded a total lift of 457 kg, earning him the title of Asian champion for the third time in his career.

Minasyan's main competitor was Iranian athlete Alireza Yousefi, who achieved a total lift of 445 kg to secure the silver medal. The Iranian weightlifter set a world record in the clean and jerk category by lifting 261 kg, but ultimately fell short to the leader in the combined total of both lifts.

The top three was rounded out by South Korea's Son Yong-hwan, who finished with a total of 416 kg.

Notably, Minasyan's total lift at the Asian Championship exceeds the figure by Armenian Varazdat Lalayan, who earlier claimed the title of European champion by 6 kg.
