OSCE Activates Election Observation Process in Armenia
The head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's observation delegation, Euroshima Peyovich, will be in Yerevan on May 22-23 as part of the preparatory work for the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7 in Armenia.
During the visit, she will meet with representatives from state bodies, the election management body, political parties and alliances, civil society organizations, media representatives, as well as representatives from the already stationed OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights in Armenia.
The goal of the visit is to gain insight into the pre-election environment and the preparations for the elections. Peyovich will work with Fara Karimi, who has been appointed as the special coordinator of the OSCE's short-term observation mission.
The OSCE PA observation mission will also collaborate with delegations from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament.
The press release states that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has extensive experience in observing elections in Armenia, with its first mission being sent to the country as early as 1995. It is expected that more than 100 parliamentarians and staff from over 30 OSCE participating states will take part in the observation mission.
