Customs Committee Announces Direct Trade Initiation Between Armenia and Turkey

The Armenian State Revenue Committee has announced that as of May 11, 2026, the procedural preparations for the commencement of direct trade between Armenia and Turkey have been completed. This has been carried out within the framework of the regulatory process that has been ongoing since 2022, as part of confidence-building measures.

According to the new regulation that has come into force in Turkey, goods exported from Turkey can now designate Armenia as a final destination. Previously, Turkish supplier companies were unable to mention Armenian enterprises as recipients in export declarations submitted to Turkish customs authorities, nor could Armenia be specified as the destination country. As a result, goods reached Armenia through intermediary entities from third countries (for example, Georgia) under re-export formalities.

What has changed is that now, Armenian enterprises can import goods from Turkey directly in their name, without intermediaries. As previously reported, customs-wise direct trade between Armenia and Turkey, without reprocessing, has become possible.
