Some Countries Tighten Tourist Checks Due to Hantavirus
Thai authorities have intensified checks on tourists arriving from South America due to the hantavirus. This was reported by The Nation.
“Thailand has implemented enhanced surveillance to detect symptoms of hantavirus. Border crossing points are particularly scrutinizing tourists arriving from 13 South American countries,” the publication conveyed.
Already, 470 tourists have undergone screening, and no hantavirus cases were found among them.
Furthermore, a deadly outbreak of hantavirus has been reported on a Dutch tourist vessel traveling from Argentina to Cabo Verde. The World Health Organization has recorded 11 cases of the virus, with 3 infected individuals succumbing to the illness.
