Georgia Has a New Catholicos
According to the decision of the Extended Assembly of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Shio (Elizbar Mujiri) has become the 142nd Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia.
As reported by the APA's Georgian bureau, the voting for the spiritual leader was conducted among three candidates. The church assembly involved 39 members in the process. Metropolitan Shio won with 22 votes.
It is noteworthy that Ilia II, who held the position of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia since 1977, passed away on March 17 at the age of 93.
