Saudi Arabia Pulls Away from Trump

Donald Trump has canceled his initiative to support vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz after Saudi Arabia barred U.S. military from using its bases and airspace.

According to NBC, U.S. President Donald Trump has retracted his initiative to assist ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz under the framework of the 'Project Freedom.' This decision came after Saudi Arabia suspended the possibility of U.S. military personnel using its bases and airspace for the operation.

On Sunday, Trump announced the operation’s launch on social media, which surprised Riyadh and sparked anger among the Saudi leadership. In response, Saudi Arabia stated that it would not allow American aircraft to utilize its territory for the mission.

Negotiations between the leaders did not lead to a resolution of the dispute. Qatar and Oman were also taken aback by Trump’s initial announcement; some were informed only when preparations had already begun.

Another 'surprised' party was Israel, although Prime Minister Netanyahu denies this assertion. Israel was not informed about the cessation of the operation.

On Wednesday, a government source clarified to political reporters that Trump’s decision to de-escalate was not a surprise for Netanyahu. This information was reported by Ynet, Kan, as well as Channels 12, 13, and 14.

On Tuesday evening, the Israeli source claimed that Israel was unaware of any possible agreement between Trump and Iran and was preparing for a resurgence of war. Netanyahu deems it important to refute this news so that voters do not doubt his closeness to Trump.

“The Americans did not surprise us. The head of government is in constant contact with President Trump; they talk almost every day. There is direct communication between the Prime Minister’s people and the President’s people. We have been informed that President Trump is not retreating from his 'red lines,' the main one being the removal of enriched uranium,” reporters from Kan noted.

After the issues with Saudi Arabia, an offer was presented to Iran, to which the latter has yet to respond. Trump had initially given two days for a reply, which was later extended to one week.

Donald Trump stated, “Iran wants a deal; we’ll see if they agree to the terms or not.” In a conversation with Fox News, he clarified that the new deadline is one week, adding, “It’s not a deadline, but it will happen.”
