VIDEO. The Meaninglessness of Creating a 'Peasant' Entrance. Viktor Mnatsakanyan
“Well, I understand you don’t like Yerevan, fine, it’s clear you don’t respect our state, fine, I assume you don’t know Gevorg Tamanian and are unaware of his contribution to our city, fine, it’s evident that you lack aesthetic taste, fine, it’s not the end of the world, but it’s been years since you’ve blocked the sidewalk on the most touristy street in the Kentron district, and other businesses are suffering, not to mention pedestrians. Fine, you’re taking advantage of today’s city authorities’ unprofessionalism and corrupt practices. This could go on,” wrote political figure Viktor Mnatsakanyan on his Facebook page.
“But can you or anyone explain the meaning of removing the proportionate, beautiful authorial, Tamanian entrance, completely distorting the building’s facade architecture, and instead creating an incomprehensible, meaningless, 'peasant' entrance? As much as the building is private and you can manage it, you can mislead the city authorities, you may not like the building or its facade, but you cannot disregard the city’s and the street’s architecture, its identity, and the memories of Yerevanians,” he wrote.
