Khoren Levonyan Discusses Reasons for His Dismissal from Public Television

Actor and host Khoren Levonyan spoke about the reasons for his dismissal from the Public Television on the show "Tet a Tet." The actor specifically recounted, "In the New Year film they had produced, I was asked to read a voiceover. After looking at the text, I realized that it did not suit me, because it seemed to mock everything I had created over the past 15 years, referring to 'Yerg Yergots' (a popular Armenian project). Furthermore, there was no clause in my contract that required me to do anything.

Various producers were constantly contacting me, asking for that text... I told them, 'No problem, just edit a few things, because I noticed a trend in the text that seemed to attack my literary Armenian speech.' It also seemed like they wanted to mock the work of our troubadours and ashugs. I said, 'Please edit it, and I will read it.' They insisted again and said, 'No, it won't happen,' to which I replied, 'I will not read it, edit it, and let it be in another form.' I don’t want to mention names, but it specifically related to certain individuals, our troubadours and ashugs, and it was offensive,” Levonyan shared.

After his refusal, a decision was made to dismiss Levonyan from the Public Television. “They held a meeting, sat down, discussed me, saying that I had not done this thing for them, and my candidacy was put forth for dismissal. I had a shoot for the show 'Spasir Men' just two days later. They are now rerunning episodes of 'Yerg Yergots,' and I don’t know what will happen...” the actor revealed.
