US Developing New Powerful Nuclear Bomb

The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has initiated the creation of a new powerful nuclear weapon aimed at targeting deep-seated strategic objectives.

The United States National Nuclear Security Administration has commenced the implementation of the Nuclear Deterrent System-Air-delivered (NDS-A) project, for which approximately $100 million has already been allocated. The new air-dropped bomb will have a yield of around 400 kilotons and will incorporate elements from existing bunker-busting munitions, namely the B61-11, -12, and -13.

According to The War Zone, details regarding the weapon's design remain classified, but it is known to be air-delivered.

Experts speculate that the munition will feature tail control, making it maneuverable and precise. This will allow the bomb to be dropped from high altitudes, after which it can autonomously glide toward the target over several kilometers. The potential use of a rocket booster is also possible, ensuring a safe distance for aircraft from the target.

The new nuclear air-dropped bombs will be equipped for the B-2 Spirit and the under-development B-21 Raider strategic bombers, with the arsenal being stationed within the U.S. territory.

An NNSA representative stated that the NDS-A system would provide the president with additional capabilities to engage protected and deeply buried targets. According to the official, the program is rapidly progressing, and further details will be released based on strategic considerations.

The NNSA is a semi-autonomous body of the U.S. Department of Energy that oversees the development, modernization, and maintenance processes of nuclear weapons.
