Macron Calls on the US and Iran
The French leader Emmanuel Macron announced on social media that he had held discussions with US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian the day before. He urged to resume the stalled negotiation process in Islamabad, to clarify existing misunderstandings, and to prevent further escalation of the situation.
Specifically, the president emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the ceasefire by all parties and its extension to Lebanon. According to Macron, it is equally crucial to expedite and unconditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz without any fees or restrictions. Under such conditions, negotiations should be swiftly resumed with the support of the main stakeholders.
Additionally, France and the United Kingdom are set to organize a conference in Paris this Friday. The event, which will be conducted in a video conference format, will gather non-combatant nations willing to contribute to the restoration of freedom of navigation in the strait as soon as the security environment allows.
