VIDEO: Pashinyan on the Return of Azerbaijanis
We have never discussed such issues with Azerbaijan, nor do we plan to do so. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a government briefing when asked about the visit of Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and whether it was also aimed at negotiations concerning the return of Azerbaijanis.
"I want to also say that, as you already know, we have not discussed the return of the Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh or those from Baku and other places with Azerbaijan, because, evidently, discussions on both fronts have a provocative impact on the current political situation, and they can escalate one another, and that often happens," Pashinyan noted.
He also drew attention to the fact that both questions are kept hot in the political agenda by the same forces, who initially escalate one issue, and if it doesn't have sufficient effect for them, they escalate the second issue. "This is merely cheap domestic political maneuvering, nothing more. There are people who talk about these topics but do not understand what they are talking about and for what purpose. For example, I am 100% convinced that the oligarch from Kalu has no understanding of what he is saying and for what purpose. He is ordered, he states it, and he does not understand what they are discussing. He does not even grasp the interconnectedness of the issues. This is cheap political maneuvering. I clearly responded that we have never discussed such a question, never!" Pashinyan concluded.
