Life Goes On: Putin's Announcement

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, is concluding his work in the republic and moving on to another position, TASS reports on April 30.

"The tenure of the current head of the republic, Sergey Alimovich Melikov, will end in September. He has done a lot. And we are grateful to him for that. But he is moving on to other work, life goes on," Putin stated during a meeting with Dagestan representatives.

Putin endorsed the Dagestan representatives' proposal to appoint Fyodor Shchukin, the president of the Dagestan Supreme Court, as the new head of the republic. The 49-year-old Shchukin hails from the Nizhny Novgorod region and has led the Dagestan Supreme Court since February 2024.

Putin also supported the candidacy of Magomed Ramazanov for the position of Prime Minister of the republic. Ramazanov currently serves as the deputy representative of the president in the North Caucasian Federal District.

Sergey Melikov has been in charge of Dagestan since October 2020. Earlier in April, commenting on rumors about his resignation, Melikov referred to himself as Vladimir Putin's
