Sanctions Against Lukashenko's Sons
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has signed a decree implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC). It establishes sanctions against Belarusian companies that support Russia's armed aggression, as well as against close associates of Alexander Lukashenko. This information was reported by the President's Office on April 29.
The head of Ukraine stated, “I have now signed a new package of sanctions for Ukraine, a balanced package, which includes measures against Belarusian entities. This is a signal to our many partners about what to apply pressure on in order to reduce the level and intensity of this war. Russia has no goodwill; it must be forced to take the necessary steps to reduce aggression, and let them later call those steps their 'goodwill gestures'. Belarus must not be drawn into the war. There should be no actions against other European countries. We need to have a dignified peace in this war against Ukraine waged by Russia. Thank you to everyone who fights and works to ensure that Ukraine has such a future.”
According to the President's Office, the list of restrictions includes 11 legal entities and 16 Belarusian citizens. In particular, sanctions have been imposed on factories producing 122 mm and 152 mm caliber artillery shells for the Russian side. “These include Olsa, Minsk Thermoplast factory, and the Heavy Stamping Forging Plant, which manufacture parts for shells. The IK-9 republican unitary production enterprise, which produces packaging for shells, and Neftkhimdiagnostika, where munitions are tested, are also under sanctions,” the official statement noted.
Restrictions have also been imposed on the Vitebsk Electric Meter Plant, which supplies equipment for the repair and upgrading of Russian armored vehicles, as well as on the Radioelectronics enterprise, which produces components for military equipment. Additionally, Ukraine has sanctioned the factory that repairs Russian aircraft, including models such as Tu, Yak, and Il.
Among the individuals targeted is Viktor Sheiman, a close ally of Lukashenko who has held high positions in Belarus for many years. The President's Office stated, “He executes orders from the self-proclaimed president, conducts intergovernmental negotiations, and establishes shadow business relationships. He is involved in the organization of ‘death squads’ that eliminated opposition politicians, activists, and public figures.”
The sanctions list also includes the sons of the Belarusian leader, Viktor and Dmitry Lukashenko. According to Ukrainian officials, they are involved in the process of circumventing international sanctions, exporting goods, supplying dual-use products, and re-exporting through Belarus.
