I Am Being Humiliated, Targeted: No Chancellor Has Faced Such a Thing Before – Merz

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz commented on the information atmosphere surrounding him and the negative reactions present on social media in an interview with Spiegel. The head of the government emphasized that he is subjected to attacks and humiliations that no previous chancellor of the country has encountered.

“I sometimes use certain social media platforms. But if you look at what is being spread about me, how I am attacked and humiliated, no federal chancellor has faced anything like this before me. I am not complaining, but that is the reality,” Merz said.

Speaking about the actions of former Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Merz noted that there was an attempt in the past to persuade the public that social and security policies could be implemented without contradicting each other. According to the current chancellor, Germany can no longer afford such an approach.

Addressing criticisms regarding his rhetoric, he admitted that his formulations often provoke confusion, but stated that he does not intend to change his style. “I say what I consider to be right, and I acknowledge that this sparks heated debates. However, I also notice that such words encounter a highly sensitive public that is easily 'irritated.' Nevertheless, I will not change my behavior,” he remarked.

Merz has previously been considered the most unpopular politician in the country, according to a new study conducted by the INSA institute for the Bild newspaper. The study indicated that Merz ranked last among 20 politicians with an average rating of 2.9.
