Azerbaijani Airlines' Flights Through Armenia's Airspace Have Sharply Increased: FIP

The Fact-Checking Platform has presented statistics on the use of Armenia's airspace by Azerbaijani airlines from 2020 to 2025 and the payments made for it.

According to data provided by the Republic of Armenia's Civil Aviation Committee to FIP.am, the number of flights operated by Azerbaijani airlines has dramatically increased in 2025, reaching 8,653, the highest figure in the last six years. For comparison, it is noted that only 33 flights were conducted in 2020, which means that from 2020 to 2025, Azerbaijan has utilized Armenia's airspace 260 times more frequently.

The number of flights by Azerbaijani airlines through Armenia's airspace has shown a steady annual increase, with the pace accelerating in the last two years. According to statistics, there were 584 flights registered in 2021, 2,194 in 2022, 2,504 in 2023, and 4,637 in 2024.

“With the increase in the number of flights, the fees charged for air navigation services have also risen. Over the past six years, Azerbaijani airlines paid a total of €927,762 or 409.4 million drams (based on the average exchange rate as of April 20) to Armenia. Therefore, the amount paid by Azerbaijan for services has significantly increased over the six-year period,” FIP reports.
