The Target of the Suspect Was Trump, U.S. Attorney General Says

U.S. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch has indicated that the suspect intended to attack members of the administration and possibly the president himself. He made this statement in an interview with NBC News.

According to the official, the suspect traveled by train from Los Angeles to Chicago and then arrived in Washington, D.C. On Monday, the man will be charged in federal court with assaulting a federal officer and using a firearm with intent to kill.

Blanch stated that the arrested individual has not cooperated with investigative authorities. Earlier, it was reported that the man fired from a hunting rifle at a Secret Service agent at a checkpoint at the Hilton Hotel in Washington.

Following the shots, security personnel quickly evacuated President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump from the dinner of the White House Correspondents' Association. The attacker was apprehended and arrested.
