Orbán Declines Parliamentary Mandate
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is stepping down from his position, has announced that he will not participate in the work of the new parliament and is returning his mandate. In a previous statement made on social media, the politician mentioned that the mandate obtained through the coalition of Fidesz and KDNP actually belongs to the party.
Orbán justified his decision by stating that his presence is currently necessary not in the legislative body but in the reconstruction of the national movement.
Meanwhile, Péter Madl, the leader of the winning party 'Tisza', who will assume the role of Prime Minister on May 9, is already planning to revoke the previous government's decisions. In particular, Madl intends to halt the process of withdrawing from the International Criminal Court (ICC). This process had been initiated by Orbán in April 2025 in support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had been issued an arrest warrant by the ICC.
