Mali's Defense Minister Gene Afrikene has been killed, reports Jeune Afrique. According to the publication, Sadio Kamara was killed yesterday in an explosion from a truck near his residence at the Kati military base.

There has been no official confirmation of this information. Additionally, it is noted that a joint attack by Tuareg rebels and the jihadist JNIM group led to the capture of Kidal in northern Mali, cited as one of the largest attacks to date.
