Armenian Weightlifter Reflects on Victory and Gold Medal Achievement
After winning the championship title in the 110 kg weight category at the European Weightlifting Championship in Batumi, Georgia, Garik Karapetyan commented on his victory. The Armenian weightlifter addressed the significance of the medal, the competition, and his primary sporting goal.
“Every medal is of great importance to me—starting from the Armenian championship to the world championship. These medals hold tremendous significance for us, as during this challenging period we can raise our flag high and bring joy to the Armenian people, our relatives, friends, and companions. After the snatch, knowing the strengths of the Bulgarian and Romanian athletes, I was expecting the victory since I knew they were weak in the clean and jerk. My main goal has always been and remains the Olympic Games. The most vivid impressions I’ve had from victories were in Armenia in 2023. I became the European champion for the first time at home, and the biggest impressions of my career were experienced at that time. Today, those feelings tripled,” said the now three-time European champion.
It is worth noting that Karapetyan set a new European record in the snatch (189 kg) and held a 226 kg barbell overhead in the clean and jerk, achieving a total of 415 kg and winning the gold medal.
