Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry's Stern Statement on the Armenian Genocide
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has condemned the remarks made by New York City Mayor Zohra Mamdani regarding the Armenian Genocide. "We reject your provocative statement. Such expressions demonstrate a lack of understanding of the history and realities of the region and distort the facts for political purposes. In 2020, Azerbaijan acted within its internationally recognized sovereign territories in accordance with international law and the resolutions of the UN Security Council. The anti-terrorist measures carried out in 2023 ended with the restoration of Azerbaijan's constitutional order after 30 years of illegal occupation.
Claims regarding 'displacement' ignore the fact that Armenian residents were offered reintegration, full equality of rights, and security guarantees. It is particularly concerning that an elected official, while neglecting the ethnic cleansing and mass killings perpetrated against hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis during the period of occupation, as well as the destruction of cultural and religious heritage, promotes unilateral narratives. Such irresponsible statements are unacceptable and must be retracted immediately," the statement reads. Recall that previously, New York City Mayor Zohra Mamdani made a statement in connection with the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, emphasizing the importance of not allowing history to repeat itself.
