US Navy Secretary Resigns

US Navy Secretary John Fallon has resigned from his position. Pentagon press secretary Sean Parnell announced the resignation via X social media platform, stating that the decision takes effect immediately.

“On behalf of the Secretary of Defense and the Deputy Secretary of Defense, we are grateful to Secretary Fallon for his service to the Department of Defense and the United States Navy. We wish him success in his future endeavors,” he wrote.

The duties of the acting secretary will be assumed by Hung Kao, who previously served as Fallon's deputy. CNN has reported that John Fallon was a businessman before his appointment and had no military service experience. He was appointed as the Navy Secretary in 2025 following Donald Trump’s election as president. The network also notes that prior to his appointment, Fallon participated in fundraising efforts for Trump's presidential campaign alongside his wife.

On April 13, at Trump's request, American military forces began monitoring the Strait of Hormuz, extending to vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports.
