Armed Individual Opens Fire on Tourists in Mexico
An armed individual opened fire on tourists in the renowned Teotihuacan pyramids area of Mexico, resulting in the death of a Canadian citizen and at least 13 others suffering injuries. According to officials, the assailant was identified as 27-year-old Julio Cesar Chason, who later committed suicide.
Law enforcement authorities found a knife, firearms, and ammunition at the scene. Local officials reported that seven individuals sustained gunshot wounds. The specific circumstances regarding the injuries of the other victims have not been detailed, but it is known that several people fell during the shooting.
Emergency services attended to citizens from various countries, including six Americans, three Colombians, two Brazilians, as well as nationals from Russia and Canada. Among the injured is also a six-year-old child.
The Teotihuacan pyramids, located near Mexico City and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, were developed by three different ancient civilizations. This complex is considered one of Mexico's key tourist destinations.
