US Senate Votes Against Halting Arms Sales to Israel

The initiative to suspend arms sales to Israel, concerning tank munitions, mortars, and precision-guided bombs, has failed in the US Senate. The outcome of the vote showed that a majority of legislators favored not halting military cooperation with Israel, and the bill did not gather the necessary number of votes.

The bill was proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders, supported by a group of Democrats. Despite the backing of more than 30 senators, this was insufficient for the document's approval. Proponents of the initiative cited the humanitarian situation prevailing in the Gaza Strip and concerns regarding the safety of the civilian population.

Opposition to the bill mainly came from Republicans and several Democratic senators. Opponents argued that halting military assistance could make Israel vulnerable to regional threats. The White House also urged senators to reject the initiative, emphasizing the need to uphold alliance commitments.
