Stoltenberg Predicts Challenges Facing NATO's Future

The former Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has stated that the organization's permanence is not a natural certainty. He emphasized that the alliance's survival over the coming decade is "not written in stone." He made these remarks in an interview with TV2.

Stoltenberg recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw from the organization during his first term, although he ultimately did not take that step. According to the former Secretary General, it is impossible to predict the likelihood of such a scenario, but Trump’s statements should be taken very seriously.

"It is not a law of nature that NATO will exist forever. The fact that NATO will survive in the next ten years is not written in stone," he noted.

The former official added that ally nations should focus on their own actions rather than Trump's rhetoric. He urged countries to take greater responsibility for security issues and to increase their military spending if they wish to maintain allied ties with Washington.
